Do What You Do Best: Just Don’t Waste Your Time

Are you one of those companies who realize you need to market your products and/or services online, only to haphazardly throw something online just to show the world that you have a Facebook Business page, or a Twitter account?  Better yet, do you have a website, but haven’t had the time to update it for over a year?

As business owners, we know how busy day-to-day work can get.  However, we also know the need for consistent and effective marketing.  With the addition of social media, it takes that much more of an effort to keep your marketing fresh, up-to-date and effective.

Wasted Hours Time Sheet

I recently came across a ‘wasted hours time sheet’ from an Information Security company.  We  modified that wasted hours time sheet (graphic below) to reflect categories relevant to the DIYer from a digital marketing perspective.  As a business owner, you have a core competency — something you do extremely well.  You may be a medical practice.  Perhaps you make something.  Our core competency is developing digital marketing strategies that help organizations increase leads and enhance their branding and online reputation.

Although I own a drill, I wouldn't pretend to be able to fill cavities as well as a dentist.  Although I own a saw, I wouldn't pretend to be able to build a house as well as a general contractor.  You get the idea.

The same holds true for digital marketing.  Chances are — even though many of the tools are free — you don't have the expertise or the time to fully develop and execute a strategy that drives online traffic, generates leads or manages your online reputation.

How many hours a week are you wasting doing online marketing tasks when you could have a digital marketing company fully leverage their expertise to develop a strategy that actually works?
