It’s rare that my dad would inspire a blog posting that could be used on Jungling’s Gems. He’s a retired pastor (RCA for those curious) who stuck with the manual typewriter throughout his entire career. He has been on email for a number of years and from time-to-time he will forward to me an email — forwarded to him from one of his friends — that he thinks is funny. Over the years he has significantly minimized the number he sends – simply because I don’t share the same enthusiasm for these forwarded emails. The last one he emailed, however, was quite humorous and told an entertaining story of how things have changed — or are changing — in his “industry.” I thought you may enjoy as well! But don’t worry, I won’t forward the email.
Church Service of the Future…
PASTOR: “Praise the Lord!”
PASTOR: “Can we please turn on our tablet, PC, iPad, cellphone, and Kindle Bibles to 1 Cor 13:13.
Please switch on your Bluetooth to download the sermon. You can log on to the church Wi-fi using the password Lord909887.”
“Now, Let us pray, committing this week into God’s hands. Open your Apps, BBM, Twitter and Facebook and chat with God.”
“As we take our Sunday tithes and offering, please have your credit and debit cards ready.”
Ushers: Circulate mobile card swipe machines among the worshipers: Those who prefer to make electronic funds transfers are directed to computers and laptops at the rear of the church. Those who prefer to use iPads flip them open.
Those who prefer telephone banking, take out your cellphones to transfer your contributions to the church account.
(The holy atmosphere of the Church becomes truly electrified as ALL the cellphones, iPads, PCs, and laptops beep and flicker.)
Final Blessing and Closing Announcements
This week’s ministry cell meetings will be held on the various Facebook group pages where the usual group chatting takes place. Please log in and don’t miss out.
Thursday’s Bible study will be held live on Skype at 1900hrs GMT.
You can follow your Pastor on Twitter this weekend for counseling and prayers.
God bless you and have a wonderful week.
The Future? The Future is Now!
This past Sunday at my church (Woodside Bible Church in Troy, Michigan) — just after scheduling this post — it was announced that two giving kiosks were installed at each end of the church for the convenience of those who don’t carry cash… Pastor Doug also — in jest (well, sort of) — requested that some young whippersnapper in the church develop a smartphone app that will make the sound of pages turning in the bible when viewing from their Bible App on their smartphone or tablet…
Finally, with Woodside migrating from Sunday School Classes to Neighborhood Groups, perhaps there will soon be a Google Hangout happening in a neighborhood group near you. Boy, how things have changed!
