QR Coding our Christmas Cards

Our Digital Supplement to this Year's Christmas Card

Christmas 2010

In the coming days, some of you will likely receive our annual Christmas card in the mail.  Although at first glance it will look like the typical card you will receive from your family and friends, you will likely notice something different about this card.  In the lower right corner of the card you will notice a two-dimensional bar code — also known as a QR (Quick Response) code.

Those recipients that have a smart phone handy — and a QR code reader (or bar code scanner) application on their smart phone — will be able to scan the bar code and be automatically directed to a URL that will play our Christmas video.

Note:  Those of you reading this blog post will also be able to scan the code you see to the left (or below) and be taken to our video, so you're not missing anything if you didn't receive a card in the mail!

QR Code Applications

The bar code has the capability of not only embedding a web address but also a phone number, an email address or even text.  Once scanned, the user will be automatically connected to this information directly on their smart phone.

You can likely begin thinking about various applications for this technology (QR code on a business card, on marketing collateral, your Christmas cards, etc.)  We will begin addressing these various opportunities in coming blog posts — but in the meantime, scan the code to the left (or below) and "Merry Christmas!"
